Pain Management for Today
Pain management is something people suffering with pain employ whether they know it or not. Pain management even has a fancy name, algiatry. Although, people with arthritis pain, back pain, knee pain, joint pain, etc, really don’t care. They simply want relief.
Because each one of us with pain suffers from differing degrees of pain, only a small portion of the pain suffering universe will actually have a pain management team consisting of medical practitioners, physiotherapists, chiropractors, clinical psychologists and occupational therapists and nurse practitioners. If you are one of those people, you have what the medical community calls a multidisciplinary team.
The idea underlying this approach calls for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with pain. Generally speaking only the people with intense pain have a multidisciplinary team. The rest of us make do with our family doctor or medically direct our pain management program ourselves.
Either approach can resolve pain once the underlying trauma or pathology has healed. That underlying trauma or pathology can be treated with drugs commonly called analgesics. The common term for analgesics is painkiller.
Another pain management method you can use is called homeopathic. It does not involve the use of drugs but rather natural organic substances straight from Mother Nature. They are combined, or mixed together, to be taken usually topically. That means they are applied at the point of pain. Although there are some that are digested and therefore work internally.
Pain Management For Today
Since there is no cure for pain, relief is the next best step. Either of the above approaches will provide this relief. However, the trick lies in determining which method is right for you.
For example, drugs, which are almost always administered orally, can cause internal damage over time as some people have experienced. The drug(s) may not deliver relief where you need it. That is possible because the drug is formulated to attack a wide area versus a point of pain area. Probably the biggest problem with drugs is that over time they reduce pain tolerance, requiring increased dosages.
Topical applications deliver powerful relief right where you need it with none of the drawbacks of oral pain meds. Of course, the topical application must be right for you.
Many people have used the trial and error method of discovering which topical does the best job for their particular situation. That means not all topicals will do the job just as not all drugs will do the job. However, if you are self directing your pain relief program, experimenting to find that particular topical that will give you the most pain relief is not a huge irritant.
The idea is to determine the program that is right for you as well as the remedy employed. If drugs is it, your doctor and you should both be watching for side effects and effectiveness of the drug(s) prescribed.
If homeopathic is employed, you should know in a short period of time of it is working. Hoemopathic remedies generally don’t produce side effects unless a person uses them in large quantities.
Therefore, you know if it is working or not because your pain level will either be decreased or it won’t. If it is, you are enjoying success. If it isn’t, it is time to search for another remedy.
